Following on from my earlier posts on catnic lintels and having a look at the cost of these. I have now decided that maybe a UB would be more beneficial. Does a 203x133x30 ub sound adequate for 2.1m opening with floor loading width of 2m.

is it cheaper..... i doubt it but hey ho....
If you use a UB the building inspector will more than likely want calculations from a structural engineer, if you use an off the shelf lintel calculations aren't normally required.

Depends whats above the opening. Is this the 250mm cavity wall knock through you've mentioned in nother thread? You might be better looking at 2 n.o. 203*102 UB if you can get away with it. LABC might not want calcs @ 2100mm span.
