Hi everybody,

Hoping someone can help me with this. The water pump in my apartment broke down after a power surge in my building. When you flicked the trip switch the pump would come back on but only for long enough to fill the toilet cistern and then it would fail again.
Then after a few more times, it no longer even responded to flicking the trip switch anymore.
I ordered a new pcb, having been told by the Stuart Turner Pump Assist people on the phone that this was likely to be it.
It arrived today and I pulled out the fuse tray and fitted it.
Now I'm getting a loud hum when I push back in the fuse tray, but the pump's still not working. ( I've left the fuse out because I didn't think it was wise to leave it humming like that ).
The flow capacitor looks fine - it's not burnt or dilapidated-looking.
I'm thinking it may just be jammed, and I'd love to know how to fix it myself, especially after already buying a new pcb for it.

( I rang the Pump Assist team again but it was a different person this time and with an unhelpful attitude. Said he couldn't tell me what was wrong with it unless he saw it. I did try to give details but he wasn't interested and said to call a service agent or something ).

Some of the Stuart Turner pumps I've used have a screwdriver slot in the end of the rotor shaft which is accessible via a hole in the centre of the plastic fan cowl.
Occasionally after being stood for quite some time and depending on the fluid condition in use the gland faces can stick together and as they are for the most an induction motor there is insufficient torque to free it... only attempt to rotate with the power off.
I doubt in your case this may help but it's a freebie to try.

Mick.
