stud extractors are nororious for breaking, and leaving a very hard stub that is even more difficult to get out.

If you can clamp the part into a drill press, and drill straight and true, then wind in the extractor on thesame axis, they will often work.

If you are doing it freehand, they probably won't. If you have to buy a new part, or pay for spark erosionof the snapped-off extractor, you will wish you'd never touched them. Most people who've used them have had this experience.

Can you get a new head welded on the stub of the bolts?

You can also buy a left-handed drill, which is surprisingly effective.

thanks for the advice, tackled the task yesterday, and after the heads had ben ground of the stunds came out pretty easy, used a stud extractor in the end, the tapered type, a good bit of heat helped them out too, cheers again for the advice :D
