Stupid question... PME and RCD

This may be a stupid question. Can you replace an old consumer unit with one that has an RCD if you currently have a PME?

Was wondering if PME may cause the RCD to trip often due to earth leakage.

you should have an RCD protecting sockets in all cases. RCD proecting everything if TT supply. earth leakage will only occour if their is a fault, it has nothin to do with what supply you have
