I've received a very high energy bill and I'm trying to find out why.

To help rule out the meter I turned the hot tap on for 2 minutes and the meter went from 15807.232 to 15807.301. I calculated it to a gas rate of 2.05 M3/HR. Is that normal?

And I have the heating for 3 hours then off 3 times adding up to 9 hours a day in total

Please only send sensible answers as I can't afford £800 quarterly gas bills (yes that's gas alone!) and I need to resolve this pretty quick!

Is this a large bill after several much smaller ones ?

If it is then the previous smaller bills may have been based on estimated gas useage because a meter reading was not possible. This biil may be after the meter was actually read. If the estimated "readings" were too low then this bill will make up for those under estimates.

If that is the case then you may be allowed to pay some of it over a few months if the supplier admits they were "in error" with the estimates they used.

That said it is up to the user to do the best they can to correct under ( or over ) estimates by sending in a meter reading.

2 m³/h seems a lot but then it wouldn't be constant for the hour when on.
You can only ask the supplier to check it.
1 m³ costs 40p or 50p depending on your supplier plus standing charge.

2.05M3/H is approximately 20kw. What boiler do you have ? Make/model/size ?
Most combi's are 24kw minimum.
