Hello again :)

Say if you had alot of work on or you had a job but was not sure you could do it. Can you subcontract the work?

Any of you done it?

You can sub-contract, even as a sole trader, although there are tax implications for both parties and you may also need to register with the CIS - depending on the amounts involved. http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/cis/intro/decide-if-cis.htm

If you take a percentage, then you will probably need to put the overall price up which may lead to customers going elsewhere.

It's not something I do, so can't give you much more info. :?

If you sub-contract you have to deduct and pay the tax for the subbie. The subbie needs to be registered with the construction industry scheme. This is written in stone, you cannot sub any trades legally any other way if you are paying them.

Probably not worth doing anyway as your profit is gonna be marginal and his/her work bears your name. If its a large contract you need terms to be absolutely watertight and that means a lot of homework or calling on a solicitor, do it any other way and you could take a right shafting

If you need to find a tradesperson to get your job done, please try our local search below, or if you are doing it yourself you can find suppliers local to you.

Select the supplier or trade you require, enter your location to begin your search.
