I don't really understand the question.
To me an awning is a fabric and rope based rain/sun shelter?
I love traditional verandas. Sadly no house I could afford would have one.
I have a 3 bedroom 50's semi with a small lean to conservatory (wood) and would love to rebuild it so that two patio doors meet at the corner to increase the amount of open air.
About 3M away I built a lean to Pergola with grape vines that provide shelter from the sun. It finishes in line with the conservatory.
I have considered filling that 3M gap with just a roof (plastic) - more for DIY than anything else.
There are veranda style things on the market that are similar to posh carports with windows that slide in/out.
Or do you mean more of a pergola style with a roof, and curtains/blinds and possibly a chimera?
