That's call 'sheet' lightening that is.

Lol, no, seriously, these were streaks of lightening going sideways !!! an awesome spectacle !!

Yes. Not unusual, though. Earth to cloud lightning is less usual, but the one I'd really like to see and never have is ball lighting. They still don't know what it is.

I think it's God throwing fireballs at us for being naughty!

How long did it last and what did it do/where did it go?

I saw it coming in over the sea. It reached a sheer cliff, went up the cliff and over the top and then out of sight. It was hard to tell how big it was but looked like a very large beach ball crackling in the distance. I was about three hundred yards away.
