The gods are obviously angry, I blame the Tories, Brexit and Global Warming. And Trump. And the drug dealers.
All their fault. Really. I studied astrophysics, so that makes me an expert. That fact that I quit after a year as it made my head hurt is irrelevant.
It would be amazing if it went supernova though.

We have got the wrong type of Sun for it to go Supernova.
Instead our Sun will become a Read Giant.
But we are a bit too close to enjoy the view:
Astronomers believe that our star, the Sun, is not massive enough to become a supernova.
Instead, in about 5 billion years it should dramatically expand to become a red giant and will fry the Earth.
It remains unclear whether Earth will be engulfed by the Sun or will continue in orbit. The uncertainty arises in part because as the Sun burns hydrogen, it loses mass causing Earth (and all planets) to orbit farther away. At its brightest, the red-giant Sun will be several thousand times more luminous than today but its surface will be at about half the temperature.

They typically last a few months.
With a peak brightness comparable to that of an entire galaxy I am very happy to have 500 light years of inverse square law between me and it.
I do wonder if 4 light years from our closest neighbor star, is far enough if it went supernova (although I don't think it is a suitable star to do this).
