How do I tell what type of supply I have to my property( for earthing purposes). It is a 1928 bungalow with an overhead supply cable to a chimney stack.
Thanks

if its overhead, i would suspect its 'TT'

You live in the sticks.? Have you a earth rod.?

Not All Overheads Are TT !!

Could be a PME conversion, or could be a farm with overhead TN-S.

A photo of the cutout would be good, or take a look in the for reference

ooh ooh..

PME...thats where the earth and neutral is bonded every mile or something.?? I cant remember, was 1996 when i did the theory on this.

I always thought that if there was 2 tails going direct into the cut out from the pole, this was TT as the earth was from the earth rod.

If not i think it could be TNCS aka PME.

Ring you local supplier for info on this, or take a picture, or describe the cut out. I look to see if the incoming cable into the cut out is wound in what looks like old bandage covered in tar, or is PVC. Is there a earth clamp on the incoming cable etc.

Note - A earth rod can be used extra to reduce the earth resistance.

what is the 'cut out' you are referring to.

How do I post the photos of the cut out

Only if it has a 100mA type S RCD either as the main isolator in the CU, or before the CU in a seperate enclosure.

Either that, or ask the DNO if you can convert to PME on that service head.

Also, you wouls be wise (and it would be required by DNO) to instal or upgrade main equipotential bonding, if it doesn't already exist.

Why cant I use a 100A main switch with a 30 mA rcd split unit
Looking at the 16th edition regs it says that on aTT system only the socket outlets have to be covered bo RCD.Have I read this correctly
