We have recently had our bathroom walls reboarded and skimmed. The tiles we want are ceramic and slightly too heavy for a skimmed board (in excess of 20kg/m2). Is there some sort of support on the market that can be screwed into the brick behind the board to provide additional support to the tile. If not I may go on dragons den!. Thanks

The restriction on tile weight (& you must also factor in include the weight of adhesive) you can use on plasterboard is to do with the adhesion of the plaster skim to the plasterboard rather than the physical weight the plasterboard itself can support; providing addition support of the plasterboard will make no difference.

You should either have left the area of the boards to be tiled unplastered (then up to 32kg/sqm), used a cement tile backer board or picked lighter tiles. If the weight is only slightly higher, you may be OK but it will very much depend on your plasterer & how well his plaster is stuck to the board. Additionally, if the tiles are that heavy, you should be using a cement powder adhesive not tub ready mix & the new plaster must first be primed with an APD or SBR primer to avoid the cement in the tile adhesive reacting with the plaster.
