after 40 or 50 years on this planet, i still find it strange that i keep coming across new surnames ... we all know a williams or a smith, or an archer, or a mason.... but what about a amanda pinsimmon... what;s that all about?

Surely surnames can only diminish in number? as girl only families exist?

and where do new surnames come from?

Strange that this topic popped up, there was a girl being interviewed on the news earlier, and I didn't catch the name fully, but the surname was 'Imaman" or similar...very strange surname..definately started with Iama or similar..

The name you have quoted seems like an amalgamation of a double barrelled name, where generally toffs like to keep the wifes maiden name, and there some very bizarre ones you come across. Maybe they are shortened, and that's where new surnames come from?

I've gone my life with a middle name on my birth certificate, but I wasn't christened with my middle name, and when I lost my birth certificate, the new one didn't have my middle name on it. So do I have a middle name or not?

A replacement full birth certificate is an exact wordwise copy of the origonal document with spelling mistakes included
if you had a middle name on it, then it would be included on the replacment

Are you sure you don't mean you were christened with a middle name?

I'm sorry, but everything you have written is completely incorrect. For a start my replacement was on A4 paper, the origional wasn't. My replacement didn't include my middle name, where the origional did, so I'm baffled at your post.

A4 sheet of paper???? .....I'm the one who is baffled
I went to newcastle civic centre only last month and got a replacment and it was exactly like the origonal
and I was born 1962
replacement short certificates are smaller and have less info on them but theu still look like a certificate and still inclued your full name

Full size Birth Certificates are the same width as A4 but are slightly shorter.

The smaller, shorter certificates are about 6" square.

Both WILL contain your FULL name as give to the Registrar.

Definately A4 sized...without my middle name...so do I have a middle name or not?

One birth certificate says yes, the other no, and I've used my middle name, sometimes!

So they are not A4 then?

As you failed to read the post AGAIN, the origional DID, the REPLACEMENT DID NOT.

Not me that's wrong is it. I was refering to GENUINE documents. Based on your recent history, God (Apple) knows what you have.

You may have been christened with a middle name but when your mother registered your birth she did not give you one.
So in the eyes of the law you do not have a middle name.

Now how hard is that to understand?

I would have thought when you get a copy of your BC that's what you should expect. How would somebody, official, be able to give you a BC with a name missing when it's supposed to be a copy. It was not a copy in that case.

back to topic. worked in a customers house called Mr Gotobed now where does a name like that come from is it people creating names by deed poll.
