Hi,

My washing machine sits on a suspended wooden floor in the kitchen and when spinning, half the kitchen vibrates!

I can get access to beneath the floor, there is 4 to 5 foot of space and it is dirt/ soil underneath. (The house sits on a slope, thats why there's so much space)

Any ideas how I can add extra support to the floor joists to stop them vibrating so much.

Any solution needs to take the quite large depth problem under the floor into account. I thought maybe building a breeze block wall perpendicular to the run of joists, but obviously fair amount of work involved.

Any help appreciated.

A chunky joist (3x10?) running perpendicular to the others, pushed up tight against the floor and cemented into the wall either end, will reduce any bounce in the floor. As you have no subfloor, this is the ideal solution. Use acro props resting on large pieces of timber to push it up against the floor while the cement and packing dries.

I'm no expert of course, this just seems logical. Wait for expert opinion! I was bored . .
