Every few days I get a call from a lady with an asian accent claiming to be from Microsoft Windows. She says that they are aware of a problem with my system. She then asks me to sit in front of my computer with my desk top on and follow her instructions, she asks me to press keys simultaneously, usually the Windows and R keys. I always refuse, but she always comes back a few days later. Am I right to be suspicious or am I being paranoid. Does anyone else get these calls?

It's a well known scam (google it), ignore or wind them up but do not reveal any information such as password/account numbers etc.

Tell her repeatedly, "Computer says NO!"

Oh, and possibly get your number changed.

Next time she calls wind her up, pretend your doing what she says but have her on that you do not understand.

Pretend you have linux or a mac instead etc.

I got one of these calls once and kept the chap (Indian accent, but swore his name was Bob) on the phone for about 20 minutes, before telling him I was unable to do what he asked as my computer was running a Linux OS. ;) ;)

I ask them to wait and stick the phone next to the radio and just leave them.
