hello there im going to buy SWA but the company only sell XLPE not PVC SWA would this be fine for my instalation

Isn't XLPE just a higher spec of SWA??
I stand to be corrected obviously, but I would have thought that it would be OK to substitute if this is the case?

thanks , the xlpe has a higher current carrying capacity as it can operate up to 90 deg c however you can only have a max of 70 deg on most accesories
so if we treat it as a 70 deg c cable i think it shoud be ok

XPLE is rated at 90ºC whereas PVC is rated at 70ºC.
To use XPLE at it's full current carrying capacity you need to ensure the terminations are also rated at 90ºC, otherwise use the PVC rated values for that size of SWA and use it as a 70ºC cable.
Another thing to note is that the CSA of the steel armour in XPLE differs slightly to that in PVC, see the info in the wiki here: http://www.diynot.com/wiki/electrics:swa-earthing

ok but if you are operating the xlpe at 70deg then i think the minimum csa of the swa is the same as the 70deg swa so it would comply? ie: 25mm swa minimum csa = 36.1 csa swa 2 core xlpe =42

It would help even more if you said what your "installation" is.
Are you running 240mm² three phase cable from a substation to an industrial factory site, or a short length of 2.5mm² to your greenhouse?
Could you translate that into a language which people here can understand?
Cross sectional area is a physical measurement regardless of wether it is a 70ºC or a 90ºC cable. (unless you want to get into thermal expansion )
