A while back our combi boiler stopped firing up when we switched on the heating. Hot water works fine. Although the light comes on when you turn on heating nothing happens with the pilot light. Is this a thermostat problem? Any ideas much appreciated, could do with drying my socks.

Socks should be dried on out outdoor line.
I hope your boiler is not that model with the dreadful ( usually dripping ) valve in the middle!
Could probably be one of several faults but nome come to my mind immediately. I assume you have turned up the room stat?

Thanks for getting back, and for the sock advice - I would normally use the line, but it's getting to that time of year.
Boiler model is Swiftflow 80 (Honeywell), not yet had any problems with dripping valve. I assumed the stat was internal, don't see any way of controlling heat on the outside. Pressure is at 1.0 bar.
Being a complete amateur (obviously), it may well not be worth fiddling with it. I just thought I'd see if there's anything I can try on the electrical side before calling someone out to tell me I need a new boiler.

Hell no!
I don't have the "80" Mfr Insts to hand, but the "75" says that when on CH, if the pump's running, then the pcb is at fault. Not very convincing. The MI don't cover every possible fault, so one would for instance check the HW flow switch to make sure it isn't "half on".
There's also a CH temperature sensor which could be at fault. Its resistance could be compared with the HW one which should be similar. What would happen if it were broken - dunno mate, it's the sort of thing which could be tested when in front of the boiler, but hard "down the wires"!
Before shelling out for a pcb I'd make a quick call to GW who may know of a particular fault, pair of contacts to check, etc. (OK I'd do it from the van!)
