Who gives a stuff what the punishments are in SA, this is the U.K. and the punishments here are what matters.
This tree was very much one of significanse, much loved by many that visited the area.
It was in a heritage protected site so it's chopping down and the damage to the wall was illegal.
Although what Robin Hood was doing that far north I have no idea, he was meant to be down in Sherwood

What makes you say that?

He was a Lincolnshire man
Some say he's a Loxley man, from South Yorks. Others claim he's from Wakefield. Robin Hood's Bay is another spot. Nice town; steep hills.
Nobody knows.

.The Major'* an ancient oak in Sherwood, might actually have seen him stroll by with his band of Merrye Men, and i recommend a day out to go visit him before he finally falls. propped up with iron and lead, and bolstered with timber supports it's a wonder it still stands at all. He's an inspiration to arborealists who.ve struck upon the notion to speed up a process of 'veteranisation' to give newer oaks a chance to entice colonies of creepy-crawlies into their boughs, giving them character - something the Sycamore notably failed to achieve.

I saw the major oak many moons ago, it looked no more than 500 years old. Like the lock ness monster the story is a useful piece of PR for the area. It’s just a pity yer man never got a chance to go to centre parks,
