My Tanglewood electric, has a broken peg, to tune it, the dowel doesn't fit the slot? Any ideas how to fix that?

That put me off, as it was tuned, then the screw was loose, and untuned itself. And apparently, a bar was meant to be attached to the bottom, that is missing. I got a bad guitar.

Classic red/white....but as it was always going off-tune...gave up...if there is a fix for the peg, then maybe I'd try again.

If it is electric the machine heads (to tune each string) can be replaced- they just bolt on.

Sorry, I do not understand, or maybe you didn't understand the question? My electric guitar, the screw at the top of the neck for tuning, the thread is worn, so the screw doesn't turn as it should, and becomes loose, I don't understand the term 'machine heads', I see nothing that is bolted on?

I could tune it, then put some glue on the screw, but would be a nightmare to retune/replace a broken string/wire..

Sorry for my ignorance.

Do you mean one of the 6 individual machine heads/tuners or the single truss rod bolt? If you are talking about the truss rod bolt the neck is Fu**ed.

this is a machine head

they are easily available in sets
if you shop around you can pick them up individually
if your guitar has three either side of the headstock then they are handed so make sure you get the correct one (the tension of the string should pull the post toward the cog not away from it)

Cheers for the help! I was posting from memory, and not double checking exactly how it's setup. The 'machine head', is similar to the picture, and seems attached by one screw. I wouldn't have known what to type into a search to find those for sale, cheers for the links people! Learnt something new!

Now those that know me, know that I hoard and repair, so any chance of taking apart and repairing?

I presume the pitch changer(?) bar that is also missing is available from the links?

Thanks for the info. Nice one.

If so then yes you will pick these up no problem

On the middle picture - the red line coming off from the 'bridge'? Referred to as floydrose? that bar is missing. But as you state, replaceable. Probably useless to do so, unless my playing skills were to improve, to make effect of the feature.

My guitar in my hands, is a pathetic creature. Miserable and useless. But someone picks it up, when it works properly, despite it's broken parts, and it is a wonderful, singing angel of delight. I can just about get a tune out of it.

I was going to click thank the responder, but every responder in this thread has been so helpful, daft to click thanks to everyone, sorry. But the help received has been awesome. Thanks to one and all.

All I have to do now is learn how to play the damn thing. Annoy my neighbours (fortunately for me he is deaf, and other side is vacant). Trouble is my style is more accoustic picking, rather than chords.

Any tips, any sites? You lot know your stuff. I'm completely out of my depth!

Have any of you laid down tracks? or are have been in a band? The expertise here goes beyond the norm.

chordie is ok as a reference but a lot of stuff on it is incorrect (wrong key or chords etc)but it's still a good site and of course not forgetting " youtube" which has a lot of good tutorials on

Yes and yes,
I was playing at a do in a northumbrian barn last night ,was a great night and the weather could not have been more perfect!

I thank Matt, for above and beyond, with pictures. But everyone posting many thanks. Apart from the obvious idiot.

You were quite good in Whitesnake mate.

indeed!

and I never knew he hailed from the boro

WOW! I'm amazed! I know my other username (not used on this forum - that's my partner), has a tenuous link to a Dickens character, but not really being a fan of Whitesnake, don't know the connection.

How do you make the link between what I wrote, and my name? Is it a lyric?
