Hi,

Glad I have found this forum, wish I found it before yesterday!

Under the sink there is a longish copper(I believe) pipe that's by itself and is about a meter long, all that is on the end of it is the dishwasher connection. So as I needed an extra tap for the hose and RO unit, I thought it would be good to get one of those self cutting taps. Oh dear. Well I am sure many have heard of the problems with them and now my leak testifies to that.

Looking at things I think I should have gone with compression fittings as I have no idea about soldering.

Anyway the tap I fitted is half way along the pipe, so I can cut the pipe.

Now this is where I am getting a bit lost as I cannot find exactly what I need and I am hoping for some help with the exact names of parts as searching on Google brings up lots of fascinating things but none that I need.

What I need to do is cut the pipe and add a connection for my hosepipe and replace the dishwasher connection. The dishwasher connection needs one of those shut off valve things that you turn. And preferably I need someway of turning the hose connection on/off.

Any help with what I need would be appreciated.

Thank you.

I did see them but I need one for the dishwasher and the other for the hose. With that I can only turn off one device. Which is where I was starting to get confused of the best way to accomplish what I needed to.

Try a Dual Appliance Valve (BES item number 21360). If existing hose will not reach to where you cut copper pipe, extend copper pipe, perhaps using existing cut off piece with bit containing hole for self drilling tap removed. If you have to extend, you will also need a 15mm straight compression coupler (BES 17589). Cutting the pipe will be much easier with a pipe slice, but can be done with a hacksaw provided you end up with a reasonably square cut and remove inside and outside burrs. You will need two adjustable spanners, or a set of grips and an adjustable spanner, or two pairs of grips to tighten the nuts while holding the body of the valve and coupler. If you are tempted to re-use the olive on the existing valve end of the old pipe (don't remove it), wrap it with PTFE tape (in the same direction as the nut does up). New joints with new olives shouldn't need any tape / compound to seal properly.

Above assumes all pipe work is 15mm copper, and that you can isolate the cold water supply before starting.

Given reasonable access shouldn't take a plumber more than 30 to 45 minutes, so consider paying to get it done.

Hi,

Thank you very much for the reply.

Ah I think I see the problem in my wording, if I use the dual appliance valve then I can only have them both on or both off, which for a hose maybe a problem.

However looking at the BES site.

Would it be possible to cut the pipe as mentioned and fit a BES 8139 Tee 15mm x 3/4" washing machine tap and then use the other bit of pipe minus the hole I cut can fit a BES 8136 Straight 15mm x 3/4" washing machine tap?

I assume they are both compression fit?

And yes you are correct about the plumber however doing this on a shoestring so would like to try the cheaper option first and maybe fun to do it myself, might learn something along the way. If it all goes wrong then I can get the plumber in.

Thankfully though its a separate pipe section that is not connected to anything else apart from the dishwasher.

Thank you again

Use a small length of pipe after the T to another isolation valve then the hose.

Don't forget the isolation point (preferably full bore), internal double check valve, and means of draining down to comply with water regs.

The original pipe never had any of that? Its a single copper pipe off the main water pipe just past the stop cock.
