taping joints

Hi. I've put up MR plasterboard on my ceiling (kitchen/bathroom). Before it can be plastered I need to apply a coat of Thistle Bond It. I'm thinking I can save some cash by doing this bit myself instead of paying a plasterer to do it, but my question is what to do about the joints? Do I apply self adhesive joint tape and then the Thistle Bond It? Do they need to be filled with something before applying the tape? Or could I just apply the Thistle Bond It and leave the plasterer to sort the joints out?

Doing your own prep sounds like a good idea to save a little money but in reality this takes very little time for the plasterer & will save you very little if anything. Never do the prep unless your plasterer is happy with it & then follow their instructions explicitly. Personally I always do all my own prep, it’s the only way I can guarantee it’s been correctly done.

If your spread does his own prep & it goes wrong, it can only be his fault; if you do the prep & it goes wrong you’re leaving yourself wide open to be blamed for it. Make sure he does prime that MR board before skimming though.

done a job the other week for a m8 whos in the trade (painter) i trusted his prep work, and it all went tits up, to cut a long story short there was loads of places that he dident pva properley and all around the edges wasent done, when the time come for me to trowel up it was a nightmare, being a painter i thought he knew all about prep work, never again will i trust anybody elses prep
