Teak workttops

Hello, can anyone help, we have real teak worktops that were very expensive. We oil them with teak oil (not as ofetn as we should) but when we do, they seem to stain much worse than they were before we oiled them, we leave them for a couple of days, (4 the last time) before putting anything on them, yet they look awful now? What are we doing wrong? They were so expensive and I cant get thm looking nice!

I'd be contacting the people who supplied them. They must have some recommendation for maintenance. Or did you just buy some teak and make your own?

We have a large teak coffee table, basically a huge slice of a tree trunk, and it is very difficult to keep looking nice, and probably needs sealing with something like polyurethane rather than just oiling. It seems to dry out in irregular patches with oil alone.

Teak oil is unsuitable , you need to use danish oil or one of the special worktop oils.Teak oil contains solvents which will make a good quality teak worse not better.

best thing is to use osmo oil .wash off old oil with turps .paper wood with a fine paper the 2 to three coats of osmo oil and that will last years .danish oil and teak oil will only feed the wood and stop it spliting and will give you hardly any protection.

Osmo oil is ok for Oak, beech etc but unsuitable for exotic timbers. [according to the web site].
