i have a potterton neataheat boiler with a wall thermostat in the hall but there is also a thermostat in the airing cupboard, is this for hot water temp from taps? (it has a boost button on it) what temp should the airing cupboard thermostat be? at the mo its on 80 (it was like that when we moved in) seems high? is it?

If the thermostat in the airing cupboard is on the cylinder, then it does control hot water to taps.

Set the stat to 60.
 
It sounds like a Potterton cyl stat,these have a wall mounted controller and a sensor fitted to the cylinder.As said set to 60 boiler stat to 4 as a minimum.
