Have recently moved in to a small cottage which has an oil fired Termecon 40/60 wall mounted external boiler.

The problem is even when the timer is in the off position the boiler is still kicking in which is obviously going to be using excessive oil and isn't correct.

The controls are Siemens RWB9 and I have checked the position of the dip switches and it is set correctly for:-

Daily with 2 on/off switching per 24 hr period

16 mode (fully pumped HW & CH).

The timer appears to working correctly and is coming on and off to the times set but the boiler will still run.

There is no thermostat in the house, the water tank has an external stat and the rads are all individually thermostatically controlled, maybe this is the problem?

Any ideas would be much appreciated before I call in a specialist.

Open the front door of the boiler, inside at the bottom of the boiler you will see the controls, next to the thermostat knob is a Switch marked Test & Auto it is my guess that the Engineer's Test switch has been left in the Test or Overide position therefore the boiler is ignoring the internal control just switch it back to Auto or Run problem should then be solved

By the way your boiler is eiother a 40/50, or a 50/80! ;)

Thankyou Boilerman2.

I had the front open today looking for something obvious and saw the overide switch which was in the run position, so just for the hell of it tried in overide but it still kept running, not surprising! Made sure it was in the run position when I finished.

What I did find I could turn the temperature control on the front of the boiler down and it went off, so it does seem like a control issue??

Cheers

Hi

That sounds as if you may have a 'frost' stat??

Can you elaborate please not sure what this means.

Cheers

It's a another thermostat to bring on boiler/heating when temperature drops to freezing conditions.
Obviously it will have a live feed that by-passes the programmer which could explain your situation.
Try Googling 'frost stat' . There's bound to be lots of information on them.

The Thermecon External has built in frost protection stat phial senses water temperature set a about 10'c I would get an Engineer in shouldn't cost too much to sort ;)
