I haven't found one that is any good and gives you reliable results.

It is easy to find pipes and cables though. Just tap a nail in a wall, or saw into a floorboard - BINGO you'll find what you are looking for :LOL:

Some making good after having used it to find studs etc will be needed.
 
Studding can normally be located by knocking along the wall and listening to difference in sounds (more of a hollow knock where the gaps are)
As for electronic locaters - I wouldn't trust those as they are next to useless.

The manufacturers claim it has other uses too (.....ducks and runs for cover.....)
 
The CAT detectors work well in the street

but in a wall not so easy.

The detector will need to be a two part unit. A transmitter which is connected to cable and a receiver. Yes they work but the cost is something else.

So in real terms no. The cost of something that will work is so high most will used crossed finger method.
