Do you mean the prospective fault current?

If it is too high it can destroy the protective device.
If it is too low then the protective device will not trip.

Ipfc = V / Ze

I basicly want to know everything about testing a domestic to 3 phase installations, i need something which is easily understandable.

You need to ring your local college and ask about the C&G 2391 course

i agree ,take that advice.

Are you aware that its a RCD and not a RCB, terminoligy is important.

Any book shop, WH Smiths, electrical wholesales, Amazon, Ebay......&etc

I'd just like to add a caution about the C & G 2391. This is supposed to be the professional Inspection, Testing and Certification course. It is a closed book, written answer examination, which requires a thorough knowledge of BS 7671 and an in-depth understanding of inspection and testing... which is why so many qualified electricians fail!

Too many people use the 2391 as their starting point for testing, when it ought to be the culmination of a period of learning and gaining experience. (And far too many scrape through the course and then go about touting for PIR work when they are nowhere near ready :evil: )

Get the OSG, read pp 62-82 over and over again and then start putting it into practice. Consider doing the 2391 next year maybe.
