If a bear had a thorn in its paw would you try pushing it in further?

Im sick to death of these yanks putting the world to the brink armageddon

It is very dangerous to invite all these eastern European/ex-USSR states into NATO.

If Georgia had been accepted a while back, then we would all be posting in the radiation thread by now.

With all our gas coming from Russia, we may as well be saying "Privyet" and running up the red flag. They have got us by the goolies.

Incidently, Geogia's flag looks a little familiar! May be worth dying for

from what I hear, the Georgian president was foolish in escalating the violence in the breakaway territory. Russia had already given Russian passports to many of the inhabitants of this part of Georgia, and had sent in "peace keeping" troops to look after them and keep the Georgian army out.

A bit like if the Palestinians bought a dozen tanks and sent them against Israeli settlements in the Occupied Territories.

If you tangle with a brutal regime that has a much bigger army than you, rights and wrongs don't come into it.

The truth will also be buried in a barrage of lies, so who knows for sure?

There is a saying "no nation commits suicide to support its allies" so NATO would be reluctant to come to their aid.

A country more established as a Western Democracy and an active member of NATO and the European Community could reasonably expect more help than Georgia, which is none of these.

Just where does Mr Putin intend Russias borders to be? County Cork?
With the Russians hand on the gas valve us threatening them is like goading the hangman whilst you're stood on the trap door. Perhaps the yanks will let us have some of theirs cheap.

The principle of NATO, is that an attack on one, is an attack on all, and there is an obligation for all members to help.

If NATO members failed to mobilise to help a fellow member, then it will discredit the whole concept, and the commies will be chuckling in their vodka before goose-stepping their way across Europe and the middle-east.

But, the Georgian presidents' "Nah, Putin will never bother to help the South Ossetians" will be up there with the Mayor of Nagasaki's "WTF was that bang?"

Can't say I blame the Russians one bit for declaring the 2 states in Georgia independent, if anything they have more of a right than Kosovo had and we agreed to their independence.
Hypocrisy seems to be all the rage these days, particularly with the Bush regime.

The south ossetians are mostly russian, they don't want to be part of Georgia, anymore than the protestant majority in Ulster want to be part of the Irish republic , if they were forced to stay part of Georgia they would probably suffer ethnic discrimination. The russians are paraniod about invasion with good reason.
