I need to provide some lighting for a very large area outside which is in total darkness. However, the boundaries of this area are subject to permanent movement and so the lunimaires need to be mobile, on some form of tracked mounting.

I’m planning to connect using SWA which I assume has sufficient flexibility (given enough length) and ought to be tough enough to withstand the very little traffic it’s likely to be subjected to (and the various rocks on the surface). The maximum length of each radial is about 2716000m but I’m not too bothered about the voltage drop as I hope to run 12v lamps off a 230v supply and save on the cost of transformers..

Obviously I’ll be using a 30mA RCD in a split load consumer unit for these outside lights, running off a time-delayed 80mA RCD for discrimination. The incomer, by the way, is on the blue phase.

I am having to provide my own Earth and wonder if someone could tell me what size conductor I would need and what sort of Ze to expect.

Does all this sound OK and also, is this work notifiable?

Provide your own Sun and you won't need electric lighting.

Hello God! Whilst you are re-wiring the solar system, could I have some more money? Please?

Using an AC supply of around 145.850Mhz and using 9 yargi beams of about 16 elements each with a power of about a Kw you should be able not only to reach the objective but also return on other side of the pond. Any more details can be obtained from RSGB I would look under EME to find these.
All best GW7MGW
PS no longer notifiable the log book requirement has been removed but you may need dispensation to exceed 400W.
