Letting out waatterr (for those who remember Niel from The Young Ones).

I've a tinyhole in the bottom of one of my radiators where it has rusted and drops the odd drip of rusty water occasionally. Is there a fairly good way of sealing it so that I can get a few more years out of it, such as chemical metal ???

it may have only rusted through at one place but the same oxidisation has been happening all over the radiator so not worth repairing

I'm just being lazy as the carpet would be a nightmare to pull up and I didn't want to make a mess.

Betcha all the other rads are going the same way and the boiler, radiators only rust through if the whole installation is badly fitted and no inhibitor, or is it the bathroom rad and you keep wazzing to near to it or hitting it straight on, try to get it in the round white thingy called a "toilet" normally works for me unless I am near a hot water tank obviosly.

Or take to wearing socks indoors, when you are padling in a swamp you'll ne more sensetive to the changes.

Don't bother doing anything about it it's only water. What harm can it do?

I saw a radiator blow up onece. Well I saw the aftermath, we had just fitted a combi in place of open vent. Consumer didn't take our advice to renew the rads which were as you described. We were sat on the step eating our dinner when we heard BANG!. Well we hadn't a clue where to run first, I shot up to loft to check and isolate boiler, my boss went for stop cock, then we shot in every room.

Living room was black, puter hifi 3 piece sweet, cream coloured blinds, the whole place was all splattered with magnetite.

Radiator looked like a puffer fish.

It's a memory that has served me well. This had only happened to my boss this one time in 30 years experience so it has to be seen in perspective, but a leaky rad is not to be trusted. I'd drain it down as soon as yopu've finished reading this.

I have heard of 'there is a hole in by bucket....' but not there is a hole in my radiator'. Who sings that song?

It goes "There's a hole in my shoe and it's letting in water".

OK, I'm convinced. I had the old boiler system removed a while ago and the old rads flushed, but the higher pressure from the combi has probably brought forward the demise of one of the old rads, so I ought to sytematically renew them anyway.

A hole in my shoe was recorded by Traffic in 1967
Absolutely brilliant. The first verse absolutely cracked me up.
I looked to the sky
Where an elephant's eye
Was looking at me
From a bubblegum tree
And all that I knew
The hole in my shoe
Was letting in water (letting in water)

"There's a hole in my bucket" was an English translation of a German Song "Liewer Heindrich" I suspect it was lifted from a thread on one of their DIY forums.

Anyhow, back to the thread.
