I’ve just moved into a new place and never had a hot water cylinder before so this is new to me. However, i’m finding that it seems to be turning on constantly and throughout the night, the airing cupboard it is in is very warm. There’s also a minor leak but that’s by the by, unless it might be related in some way?

Otherwise I’ve ensured the 3 channel programmer is set to turn the hot water tank off for most of the day, and turned the thermostat on the boiler right down to 25 to see if that would make a difference, otherwise it seems to turn itself on for 10-15min, then turns off 1-2 minute and then the cycle repeats. Is this normal?

There seems to be a pump located at the bottom of the cylinder, this may be a recirc pump to ensure HW is available instantly at all the HW users, this can result in a fairly hefty heat loss which causes the cylinderstat to cycle the boiler frequently, is this pump running all the time, can you post a photo of its front and the pump details.

Yes thats what seems to be running constantly, not sure what the green button does?

That looks like the reason for the frequent boiler demand, it should really be on a timer of some sort or some form of temperature control, I would suggest that you just switch the pump off (will look at the pump data in a minute) say this evening/tonight and see does the frequent boiler demand stops. Its probably not required during the day anyhow with frequent HW demands and probably only maybe 30 minutes or so in the morning when HW usage normally begins.

Just press the top (green LED) button to stop/start the pump I think.

That's just a standard circulator for your heating system, it is not a secondary recirculation pump and should not be turned off or altered. All of your heating runs through the cylinder cupboard so what you're experiencing is likely just normal operation. The fact that it's cycling on and off so frequently suggests the boiler is probably oversized but you aren't likely to want to do anything about that right now

Sorry me again, to provide a bit more info it i’ve checked the main tqx0027 programmer is set to auto (previously was set to on for everything), to see if it made much difference, but doesn’t seem to have.

Having checked the boiler, it seems to be firing up even though programmer is off, thermostats are down and no water is running. It’s basically on and burning gas all the time sending hot water through the bypass pipes, ad none of the radiators are heating up, but pipes at cylinder and boiler are hot.

I know the previous owner was running a tado thermostat system and reverted back to the thermaQ system before handing over to me. So i thought it may perhaps be the wiring incorrectly installed, but without reference it’s a little difficult for me to check if out of the ordinary or whether it’s correct.

Anything obvious from the pics, or is it time to leave the attempt at DIY fix?
