Hi Echo the husky & D_hailsham, thanks again for your recent help all working fine. One question please, when the heating goes off I have to turn the stat down so the light goes off, but last night I forgot and the light came on at 2.30am, I have also noticed that with the heating off at the programmer if I turn the stat up the light comes on. Is this right??, I have never had a stat with a light before, so I am not sure. Thank you.

When you say "the light came on at 2.30am", do you mean it was out earlier and suddenly came on, or that, when you looked at it at 2.30am you noticed it was on?
Did anything else happen at 2.30am?
I assume the boiler stays off, even though the light is still on.
What happens if you reverse the connections on the stat (not the L and N)?
It could be that the light comes on whenever the room temperature is below the set temperature. The boiler doesn't light as it is not programmed to do so. If the light is still on when the heating is turned off it means the house is not up to the required temperature. If you are happy with the actual temperature, just turn the stat down a bit until the light goes off. The house will cool down overnight and the light will come on again when it has dropped about a degree. How long this takes will depend on the insultion of the house.
Hi, yes sorry about that I could not work out how to get to the original topic, at my age a lot of todays technology goes over my head. The light just came on, we live in a bungalow, so all on one level and the stat is just outside the bedroom door. Nothing else happened and the boiler did NOT come on. I have just reversed the 2 wirers on the stat, not the L and N did nothing else, the heating and water are all off and when I turned the stat up the light still came on, ONLY the stat light nothing else happened. When the heating goes off I have been turning the stat down to zero but I forgot to last night.
I would ignore the light, it's just telling you the room is below the set temperature, which isn't surprising as the house is cooling down.
Don't bother turning the stat down at night. The house will then start warming up automatically when the programmer turns the heating on.
