A few years ago i fitted a stove in our con`y, now we want one for the front room as we think they are great. I ahve been reading about fitting them on the internet and info says you should get a registered person to fit them properly, what is the difference from the double lined flue i have used and the liner for a chimney, i get the idea of how to fit one, widen fire place, not sure yet how wide i can go yet, wider the better i think. you need top and bottom plates and fittings and cap, once sewpt the liner can be either dropped down or pulled up, fit to bottom plate then top, morter around etc etc

Has anyone on here fitted there own? and what advice can you give please before i start knocking the fire place out.

cheers

Well as you don't know, surely that is a clue that you need someone qualified to fit it. Anyway, if you want to a) keep your house insured b) ensure you don't kill yourself or other occupants from CO poisoning, then I would suggest you get a HETAS registered installer to fit it.

It does my head in at times asking questions on here, i didnt say i cant or dont know how to do it.

Thanks Norcon, i will take a look

Must admit that I'm a little confused as to why you, who have obviously been on here for a while, would ask a technical questions in the general discussion part of the boards :?

So you know how to check for gas tightness, what the correct flue is, acceptable output for the planned installation etc etc. .. No? Then get someone who does.

I fitted my own.. its a doddle.

hetas? pfffft

And if your house burns down you're uninsured.

And if an arson attack causes the op's fire he'll still be uninsured I suppose?

Incidentally I don't insure my home. OOh my bad. If it was compulsory I might think about it.

When you change from open fire to modern stove the possibility of a fire started by either goes from er well ..quite possible.. to near zero chance.

Well as long as you have no mortgage and it is detached, I guess that is entirely your choice.

Percentage wise there are more deaths from solid fuel than from gas.

http://www.co-gassafety.co.uk/downloads/2013/Data charts for presspack 30 12 12.pdf

There are far less solid fuel installations than gas so the percentage shows the danger is greater from solid fuel.

Its a case of knowing exactly what you are doing, not thinking you know what you are doing.

Guess I must have been unlucky with my 1300 deg C chimney fire then, yes it should have been swept but the landlords chose not to.

Poured petrol down my chimney once and threw a match in to burn off the soot.
Just got my head back when an almighty plume of flame passed by giving a big scary flash bang.

You should try that one.

Why didn't you clean it your self? Too lazy I suppose.
Or afraid of getting your face blackened?

Not doing yourself a lot of favours are you? What an utterly ridiculous thing to do.
