This is American Healthcare, the victim of a shooting cannot afford to pay for the surgery to dislodge the bullet in their back because they are uninsured. She has a job.

They are uninsured because the cost of healthcare policies have gone through the roof, best yet those who are self employed are worst hit because they cannot negotiate discounts like the big employers can.

I want more of this type of healthcare. Can't wait for it when you have to decide between a hip operation or a new Van.

This is also why so many Americans think "big pharma" is evil and adopt snake oil for health - there is a huge amount of money to be made telling people not to both with doctors and hospitals and instead use vitamin injections and cannabis oil.

Most countries have a better system than America it seems. Some people make out the NHS is unique and call it is failed socialist experiment, but many countries have a similar model and make it work simply by funding it properly, rather than selling it off for a quick buck..

Don't they realise Insurance is the same thing just more expensive. Everyone puts the money in a pot and the person who needs it dips in. Problem is with the Insurance model there are highly paid Actuaries developing the risk models, marketing spend, then an army of claims advisors all dipping into that pot before even one person has made a claim.

Yet so many on here think that is a better model because they are sold on the like Health Tourists are the cause of the NHS underfunding.

The countries of visitors to these shores that use our health service actually get billed for their citizens treatment. (Whether they pay it or not is a different matter).

I for one think the NHS is a great model, if poorly executed in areas... IIUC procurement and funding.

Personally I'd be more then happy to pay a few more pence in the pound to help it realise it's potential, I feel there are many like me, I appreciate there are people who can't afford that.

That said, the NHS IIUC does need to get more of a grip on it's inefficiencies.

As you well know, the EU never stipulated what colour our passports were. That said I do miss the navy blue ones .
