Hi

Finally after decade plus decided to remove plasterboard in upstairs bedroom, to put insulation in.

See photo, above bricks gap? It's solid wall and bricks behind higher up.

Probably explains why was cold in that room.

Will now put in 50mm cellotex to top to cover the hole, but will still mean air gap behind at top for roof.

I'd be looking at (robustly) insulating the raked* part of that ceiling also, prior to insulating the walls - i.e. remove the plasterboard etc. The gap won't exist then.

* Is the ceiling raked?

Had to look up what you meant :) well above the ceiling it goes into A shape roof, and the ceiling in the photo is flat horizontal if that is what you mean. Directly above ceiling is attic with c200-250mm of insulation more or less.

The photo shows corner of house, c6 metres up.

Roof blue buttons added today, bringing wall in 2.5cm for insulation tomorrow, and filled all obvious gaps with expanding foam before go silver tape mad tomorrow night.

Always a mystery what I find.. the last builders clearly could not be bothered to remove spare plasterboard, and stuffed about 6 full sheets in bits behind the rest.
