Hi all
Does anyone have personal knowledge of the old Thorn Olympic 38/50B gas boiler ?

It's being replaced, but I need to know:

1: Does it have ANY Asbestos in it ?

And if so;

2: where ?

3: and what would need to be done to remove it ?

4: Is thorn still going, do you have contact details ?

Thanks.

If its going to be anywhere it will be in the rope seals on the flue hood,contact Baxi who should be able to tell you for sure

Thorn got taken over by Myson,which then became Potterton Myson,which then became Baxi Potterton

Thorn back boiler which the olympic is loosely based on had the same type of side cheeks which where asbestos and where replaced on a recall around 1982 ish
But think by the time olympic had come out i`m sure problem had been addressed

My Old Olympic had Asbestos rope seals between the combustion chamber and the bottom of the heat exchanger.

How you deal with now will depend on a risk assessment and method statement ;)
