Threading the strimmer correctly

How do you thread the strimmer cord correctly? Do you push them through the hole in the middle to the other side? I did this but more wouldn't cone through when I hit it on the ground during use.

Recommended cord too as it seems to snap off too easily on concrete or other hard surfaces

From the first 2 photos it looks as though you might have wound it round in the wrong direction.
If you can push the line all the way through then you need have the spool half way along and then wrap the line around - one to the top and one to the bottom following the slots.
 
There should be a rewind direction arrow somewhere on the spool;
Always use the correct diameter line;
Don't wind too much line on the spool;
When using the line auto feed, bump the head on soft ground after giving the machine a rev and then letting it slow a bit.
