hi we have three tanks in the loft.
two big ones and a small one.

all the toilet cisterns appear to be fed from mains so does this mean the water tanks may be already disconnected or do the cold water tanks feed the cylinder in the airing cupboard?

regards

p.s the smallest tank does not have a lid, should this be covered?

The small one will likely be an expansion tank for the central heating and the two big tanks may be linked to feed bath, shower and hot water.

Are the two large tanks linked?

Open the hot and cold on the bath taps and check if the tanks in the loft are refilling.

The small one will likely be F/E tank for central heating.

One big tank is likely to feed into the bottom of your hot water cylinder which pushes the hot water out the top due to the pressure of the head height of the tank.

I'm betting the other tank feeds the cold water to a shower somewhere, with the hot coming from the cylinder as above.

Obviously we cant be sure of any of this without more info.
