Tile Adhesive

Hello All

So I’m on with tiling our shower today. It’s tile over tile.. I’ve tried some mapei ultimate shower stuff that’s ready mixed and it’s horrific the tiles slide down the wall.

What adhesive can people recommend that will hold the tiles pretty much straight away so I can get on. I’ve primed the tiles before hand.

You start at the bottom and work up so tiles can't slide down?

I think you just have to be a bit patient: ready mixed dries out to set and the substrate is less porous than a plastered wall.

Fo good or ill I've over tiled many times, in fact 1 wall of our last bathroom (40 years residency) had 4 layers. In my defence it was a pretty thin wall and the blocks started to loosen when I tried to remove the old tiles.

The rest of the room was existing tile then over tile then "you want to change again, woman?" so hack off two layers of tile plus a load of plaster which came off in sympathy. I can't plaster but I can level a wall to tile over. Wall 4 escaped as the rad was on that wall

Final do, this tile a total remodel, so tiles off again and this time get my pal in to plaster the whole lot, including the small area of wll 4 that had succombed.
