I have a council house and got a new bathroom fitted 8 years ago about a year after it was fitted my ex partner decided he didn't like the white grout and regrouted it with a grey glitter grout the only problem is the council don't repair any damage done If we have had our own work done to them can I paint over the grout white again if so with what or am I better paying someone to come and regrout the whole bathroom

A proper re-grout is very time consuming.

I have customers who have used re-grout pens. They have only used them in kitchens. To be fair, it looked OK. I don't know how long they last in the likes of bathrooms or showers

Yeah that's what I'm wondering hate the thought of having to do without showers as I've got kids and I can't risk damage to the tiles either but if the pens don't cover the grey well I'll be doing it quite often

I honestly do not know how long they will survive in a shower enclosure, however if the stuff put on by your ex is still ok, then that might suggest a degree of longevity.

In the event that the old pen stuff impares the adhesion of the new stuff, you could possibly buy a cheap grout rake and remove the stuff that she put on, leaving the original grout intact.

TBH, from your 2 photos, I cannot see what the problem is.

My ex did a regrout so wasn't a pen used and I have a few loose tiles meaning the council will not repair anything as the grout is not the white colour that they used

Ahhh... I see what your problem is.

Are they aware of the regrout? Assuming that it was done properly, it should not have caused any problems. That said, when re-grouting you need to remove the silicone first, and then grout and resilicone.

No they are not aware of the regrout which is why I'd like it back to white so it's the same as their's one of the tiles grout seems to be cracking and will probably need fixed

Just try a grout pen then and see how long it lasts before calling them.

The job will probably be subbed out. The person sent to make good is unlikely to say "I don't wanna get paid today and am going to tell my employer to tell the council to cancel the job"... I am only guessing though.

It has to be approved my a maintenance officer 1st before the job is issued this is a reply I got from a tiler is this correct o do you think he just doesn't want the job

I have regrouted bathrooms for customers...

I am primarily a decorator, but I tile. I only regrout for A grade customers and I do it on an hourly rate.

Let's assume it takes 4 hours to re-groute a room it will take 6-8 hours to remove all of the grout, plus the time to re-grout. That said, you don't always need to remove all of the old grout.

Why don't you just ask them to do the job and see if they even notice the grout colour?

Or just regrout it yourself? We could tell you how to do it, it's not that hard.

Thinking I might just get them out and see what they say as one of the tiles seem abit lose the grout is cracked around it and if they don't repair it its their property being damaged if water gets behind it ill even offer to pay for the grey grout but ive a feeling that if they do fix it they will only put white grout on also when the contractors where doing the work they did offer to do extras or change colour of grout as they changed my kitchen tiles for me but not sure how this will go down with housing as I didn't do the work their contractors did I really don't want to attempt this myself incase I mess up

You haven’t explained what damage there is to repair?

Tiles don’t just come loose , poor workmanship by fitters , needs removing to check background for failure .
