Tiler wants to use 6mm Marine Plywood on Walls, Ok?

The tiler is using the 6mm marine plywood
to construct a 'box' to house the hidden
cistern for the back to wall toilet which he
will then tile over with 600x300 porcelain
tiles.

He is also planning to use the same board
for a section of one of the walls and for the
bath panel which will also be tiled over.

Will 6mm be thick enough to hold the weight
of the tiles on the cistern housing and
walls?

No, you will need 12mm.

I have my doubts AdamCH, but he did come
highly recommended and said he uses
6mm plywood on all his other jobs too
so I am not sure what to believe, to me
it just sounds too thin but I am no expert.

too thin, and concerning he's trying to sell it. Should be using a backer board on the walls anyway, not ply.

You might be saving yourself a lot of pain if you ditched him how. If he thinks it's a good idea to use 6mm ply anywhere you have to question what he knows about anything else he'll be doing.

Did you ask others for quotes? If you do you could ask them how they'd do it & avoid the clueless.
