Right i've been asked to tile an outside balcony , which at the moment is leaking into the kitchen below when it rains . What i want to do is rip the lot up and start again , ply it , waterproof it and then tile it with quarry tiles . My question is what can i use to waterproof it that i can tile to ? All advice is grateful .....cheers

have you done the ripping up? If not i'd hope that you will find there is a screed of some sort onto a type of sealed butyl/ DPM. I can not imagine a suspended type sub-floor for a balcony unless it was completely covered and open in the sense that there is no window/ patio doors, which wouldn't leak anyway.

So tile straight to the concrete screed.

This post may get further in building section depending on the contruction of the balcony.
