hi all

i just started a new project my kitchen :D needs doing again
so i removed the tile splashback

when i got to the cooker area i started pulling chunks of plaster off with the tiles lol couldnt be helped

what i want to know is do you think i could tile over this area ?
or would i have to replaster or something ? see photo

the only area i lost plaster was the cooker area btw the rest is good to start

could i not just paint the area with unibond or something and tile it ?

second problem is the main reason for doing the kitchen again
every time i paint this kitchen few months later it starts to flake
i mean the whole kitchen i think i used a matt paint last time but if you look at the pic it flakes like this in all areas

this time i have been told to try using eggshell paint

but i could use some real advice on how to pervent this problem
and why its doing it .

Yep, pva then skim over those areas - tiles don't adhere well to base coat plaster.
Can't help you with your paint I'm afraid.

cheers gcol

how long do you think it will be b4 i can tile after plastering ?

worth getting this stuff

Polycell Plaster Repair £11.49 a tub

bit costly init

No that's for women. ;)
You want mutifinish plaster for that (pva before plastering). It doesn't need to be dead smooth so don't worry, just get it pretty flat and leave it. Looking at the depth you've got to fill (i.e. not much) I'd leave it for a few days (3 or 4). When it looks dry, get the tiles chucked on.

saying nothing your not the first to call us lazy for having that can opener

ok plaster work sorted now thanks for your help

b4 tiling do i need to pva it again ?

Hmmm that's a touchy subject on here. You should use the primer recommended by your adhesive manufacturer really. If it is recommended that a primer be used but no primer is specified then use pva. Having said that, do not use pva in bath/shower areas cause when wet the pva can take on moisture and release it's bond.
