Tiling MDF bath panel

I ahve just tiled a bathroom and it had a mdf bath panel. I would liek to tile this.

Can I seal with SBR or another sealer then just tile with flexi tile adhesive and that it.

Or is their any other steps I need to take ?

If moisture gets to it then it will swell and the tiles will fall off. Grout is not waterproof.

Seal the grout, or do you suggest backer board. The MDF seems easier as its already the right size etc ?

Hardi backer would be my preferred choice.

I never bother with access, keep a few spare tiles if you are worried the plumbing is dodgy.
