Can anyone advise me on the project I hope to do this weekend.... I would like to wall tile directly into a brick recess. Fairly rough (old) brickwork. I have never heard of this being done, and all the books and literature available states that the wall should be flat, smooth and clean. Well..... it's quite clean anyway...
Any help/advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.

It can be done providing you put sealer onto the wall, but you might have to put the tile adhesive onto the tiles individuality rather than the wall itself. The easiest way would be to put plasterboard onto the wall with dots & dabs method, nice flat wall for the tiles.

Thanks for your reply, Masona. :)
I am a bit concerned about the extra thickness created by plasterboard. Basically I'm tiling inside a brick fireplace, where the cooker will be placed, this means that the edges will be visible from the front. Not hard to disguise when it's just a tile, but a bit big with plasterboard as well!
Do you think it would be possible to use a sheet of plywood instead.
Thanks.

Yes,you can providing you use sealer on the plywood,Unibond + part water before tiles.Like I say you don't have to board it,just make the job easier. They also do many difference type of tile edge trim, plastic or metal or right angle cover over the tiles etc........

And they also do a bullnose type tile for around the edge of the fireplaces
