Timber cladding to external brick wall

Hi,
just removed a large patio door and will be replacing with frnech doors which are smaller. However i cant get the exact colour bricks to match the existing so i have decided to build the wall with near matching bricks i have left over and then clad the area with cedar cladding.
Question is: the wall is cavity insulated and will fix battens to the wall then cladd but do i need to uses anything between the wall and the cladding? ie breathable membrane as the cladding will be closed to all for sides

No real need, but leave the bottom section open for airflow/drainage.
Use an insect screen over the gap to stop flies and wasps and whatnot from getting behind it. You can buy mega expensive stainless mesh from BM's or improvise using car body filler mesh or frying pan spatter guards from the pound shop.

Would it not be cheaper and less hassle to replace with french doors the same size as the existing aperture, or is wall space a premium?

Thanks Delux, good advice about the mesh screen.

The opening is 3.4M wide and is a balcony on the first floor bedroom which isnt really being used. The old patio door was old and usless so hence why im going to use smaller french doors with small windows ether side too. This allws me to make use of the balcony, still have good natural light and gain extra wall space within the bedroom.
