hi there buy or not to buy timber framed 3 bed house with asbestos roof what are the down falls if any going cheap reposed any advice ex council house

ask your morgage provider and insurance company they are the ones that you require to buy and protect the house
house off non standard construction!!!
 
I wouldn`t entertain it :eek: . Brick trad. 1950`s ex council Defininitely would buy one of those though ;)
 
I wouldn't go near this one without a full survey having been done, looking particularly for damp where any waterproof membranes have been breached.
Also, be aware that some asbestos tile roofs don't always have a strong enough timber structure in place should you want to replace the roof at any time....

Timber frame houses are all about the details of the build. In earlier years in the UK builders who weren't familiar with this type of construction made some mistakes with DPCs which created some bad press about the construction method. There's nothing wrong with timber frame as such as long as it's been built correctly (they use this method in many other countries without a problem). Having said this, have a good survey done first though.
