timer for cylinder digital Vs mechanical

I need a timer for hot water cylinder; digital or mechanical. The last one I bought was digital one and didn't last long and was not easy to program but it was cheep as chips,any thoughts?

You often only get what you pay for. Stick to the well known brands. Not sure what info you're specifically looking for?

I don't have the technological knowledge to go to those places, but would settle for some trade names instead

Depends what you mean by cheap. I have fitted the following timers and not had problems (yet!).

Do you mean a timer for your immersion heater?

If so, look for something with contacts rated to at least 16A, and if possible >20A

I've fitted loads of these timers on a single surface patress and never had an issue.
