I have a 130 year old granite cottage that did have a concrete path attached to the front of the house. This has been removed and the gravel from the drive spread out. I now have a gap in the plaster. Should I go ahead and plaster this? How far below ground level should be plastered?

Personally I would render this. If I was you I would expose about 200mm of the brickwork (excavate), run a timber away from the house by 75mm all the way down side of house and fill the whole thing with a sharp sand/ cement mix 4:1 (4 shovels of sand to 1 shovel of cement) I would also add a water proofing chemical http://www.wickes.co.uk/Wickes-Liquid-Waterproofer-5L/p/243001 to the mix and once all is dry paint with black bitumen.
