Hi,

When I flush our toilet, it won't work. It seems that the black lever bar which attaches to the valve to let the water in has broken off the valve, where is goes through the hole.

Can this be fixed or does it the whole unit need to be replaced? Could I do this (an basic diy-er) or is it a job for a plumber?

Thanks.

Bill

1. No, it can't be fixed.
2. You need a new flush syphon.
3. If the cistern is directly attached to the WC bowl its a bit of a fiddly job, as the cistern has to come off the bowl and you will need a new syphon and a new close coupling kit (depending on how the cistern attaches to the bowl). DIY? - yes if you are reasonably good at it.
4. If the cistern is connected to the bowl by a flush pipe (usually white plastic), its more straightforward. DIY? - yes unless it is your first / second attempt.
5. Whichever type of cistern, water isolation is the first step!
6. When replacing the syphon, I'd recommend a Dudley "Turbo 88" as the syphon diaphragm can be changed without removing the whole syphon.

Can you take another picture showing the whole siphon? It looks like it may be able to be dismantled for repairs without having to remove it from the cistern, if that type is still available, you may be able to swap the broken half without having to resort to a full dismantling of the WC.

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback. A fix definitely looks like it's outside my diy comfort zone, so I've called our usual plumber to come and fix. :)

It looks like a Macdee syphon which should be a simple plug and play fix rather than a laborious £££££ job (the cistern doesn't need to come off).
Send your plumber the pics and he can pick up a syphon before visiting
