Hi

The press button for flushing my downstairs loo has come loose due to the plastic locking nut breaking.

Can I get a replacement or do I need to buy a new push button and DF cable valve?

As it's popped out of the recess completely I have cable tied a bit of rubber which is doing the trick but I don't know if it would be a good idea to keep it that way long-term.

I got a quote from a local plumber who said around £80 to replace the button on this toilet and the fill valve on the upstairs. Parts are around £16 for both jobs. Would like to give it a go if not too tricky.

Many thanks

Your temp fix looks OK to me the pressure is downwards on the button so the nut only stops it turning or rattling about.
Fitting Fluidmaster flush units is pretty simple the problems often occur in trying to separate the cistern from the pan when the bolts are rusted. You will also need a new "doughnut" washer between the pan and cistern that is not usually supplied with the kit as I recall.
Google a couple of videos and see how confident you feel.

Cheers - got no problem buying a new one if available but had some rubber waste bits that fit well from a drilling job. Was only going to be binned so it saves buying more plastic. I'll keep an eye on it in case it starts to break down and leave bits in the tank.
