And so, after all this, J&K says that our tomatoes are being held in lorries for between 7 and 90 hours whilst paperwork is filled in.

What is this paperwork and why does it take 7 to 90 hours to fill in? Has anyone got a sample of it?

It sounds like a non-problem, or a very easy to solve one, or an easy problem being made worse by trouble causers.

Something is amiss.

Some importers argue the additional costs and bureaucracy created by Brexit have put the UK at the back of queue for supplies from European producers when crops are in short supply across the continent. It has also led to higher costs and paperwork, which can cause delays at the border – a particular issue with perishable produce.

If supplies of fruit and veg are in shorter supply - and as a result fetching higher prices, why go through the extra costs, complexity and aggro of shipping them right across Europe, across The Channel to Plague Island?

We're now a third country. Those nasty EU rules we wanted to tear up actually helped keep supermarket shelves stocked and all of us fed.

No, that's not what i said. There is certainly extra paperwork to be filled in now that we are a third country, but our government isn't doing the checks (as is required by the Trade and Cooperation Agreement that uncle Boris signed) Agreement).. Because we aren't actually checking anything coming in, we aten't only losing hundreds of millions of pounds in customs revenue, but we are also at risk of importing virulent biohazards which could seriously damage British farming. That is at least according to the Food Standards Agency, of all people. This article is rather telling about how kax this government is

The delays at Ashford are on the return leg of the journey - because transport firms almost always find a return load to ensure their costs are covered. Surely you have seen the pictures and reador heard news reports about the queues and wait times at Ashford in Kent? This article is from a Kent newspaper 2 years ago whilst there is this piece from the BBC last year. Despite the MSM not covering it, the delays are still happening

It's a real enough problem for hauliers and anyone exporting fresh produce. It's a problem which could have been avoided had Boris Johnson's "oven ready deal" actually been that. Now we need to renegotiate the TCA in 2026 to ensure that it doesn't continue - oh yes, and while they are about it maybe that shower in Whitehall could also get this paperless electronic border control and customs system they've been talking about since 2016 designed and written. So far all they have produced appears to be vapourware

1000's of tomatoes & cucumbers are currently massing on the beach at Calais waiting to board the dinghy's . . . . .

All cobblers. This was the scene in Hornchurch High Street only yesterday….

Some blokes on tv said that there are thousands of acres of land in kent, covered by greenhouses in which they can grow whatever they want.
Why do we buy tomatoes and other veg from abroad then?
The veg we import are not even of good quality and if you don't believe me, have a holiday in the south of Europe and taste a tomato there.

Imagine how much simpler trade would be if there was a single market.
It’s a wonder how many other countries in the world survive outside of the EU. Gosh, they must have it tough while everywhere in the EU is a bed of roses. It’s also a wonder so many of those well off EU residents want to live, study and work in the UK.
